The Welding Procedure Qualification Record (WPQR) aims to demonstrate the competence of a company to produce high-quality welded joints as specified in the WPQR itself.
In accordance with the requirements of the relevant standard, the manufacturer prepares a sample, which is welded in the presence of a welding inspector from TUV AUSTRIA SERBIA. Afterward, the manufacturer submits the welded sample to an accredited laboratory for testing using non-destructive methods (visual inspection, leak testing, radiographic inspection, ultrasonic inspection, magnetic testing, penetrant testing) or destructive methods (tensile testing, bending, hardness measurement, metallographic testing, impact toughness testing, etc.).
The formal document that describes the welding technologies used by the manufacturer and contains the necessary guidelines for the welder to perform the welding procedure is the WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) list.
Based on the previous welding technology specification (WPS list) and the results from the sample testing, the manufacturer applies for the welding procedure qualification (WPQR) with the certification body TUV AUSTRIA. After obtaining positive results regarding compliance with the requirements of the specific procedure based on sample testing, TUV AUSTRIA SERBIA issues a document that serves as practical confirmation of the welding technology used (E-111, MIG-131, MAG-135, TIG-14, and others).
Welding procedure qualification allows the welder who worked on the sample to obtain a valid welding certificate or welder qualification according to ISO 9606. The certificate confirms that the welder possesses the necessary skills to produce a specific welded joint under the conditions used in production.
Employing competent personnel and qualifying the welding technology affects the quality of the product, which meets the defined quality requirements of your customers, thus increasing competitiveness in the market.
