ISO 39001 is an international standard for road traffic safety that helps organizations establish and implement appropriate policies, objectives, and strategies to enhance road safety and reduce the number of traffic accidents.
It is applicable to all private and public organizations involved in road traffic, regardless of their size, such as:
- organizations engaged in passenger or freight transport,
- transport and/or logistics companies involved in transportation activities,
- personnel employed in the road traffic system,
- organizations involved in the design, construction, maintenance of roads and streets, and traffic signage,
- manufacturers of automobiles, trucks, and other road vehicles, including spare parts and equipment manufacturers,
- medical service providers,
- government institutions related to road traffic, such as the police, educational institutions, etc.
ISO 39001 can be integrated with other standards like ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. Organizations with a certified management system according to the requirements of these standards can more easily establish a road traffic safety management system and gain additional benefits from the unique elements provided by ISO 39001, which are not covered by any other ISO standard.
Traffic accidents are among the most common causes of injuries. Therefore, there is global concern regarding road traffic safety, making it an increasingly important topic year after year.
