ISO 14298 is an international standard that defines the requirements for managing the secure printing process, enabling the development, certification of ISO 14298, and the improvement of the system.
The Secure Printing Management System according to ISO 14298 must be adhered to by all organizations providing services to banks, other financial institutions, and the public sector, particularly in the printing of bank cards, personal documents (such as passports, identity cards, health cards, driver’s licenses, etc.), or anything containing highly confidential data.
However, today, all organizations face high printing costs, including paper, toner, and equipment maintenance. Printing materials may end up on the wrong printer or get lost in piles of output, resulting in users needing to reprint them. Additionally, materials are often left unattended in the printer, allowing anyone to retrieve them, posing a business risk.
Solutions for such challenges exist in the form of software that ensures document security, as only authorized users, after identification via PIN codes, staff cards, biometric data, etc., are allowed to access equipment and materials.
Adopting a secure printing system according to ISO 14298 is an approach that organizations take to improve systems affected by various needs, specific goals, products, applied processes, security environment, cultural issues, legal constraints, and risk assessments.
The most well-known example of secure printing is money printing, which in our country is the primary function of the National Bank of Serbia. Banknotes have visible and tactile features that allow people to verify their authenticity without special equipment.
The primary goal of ISO 14298 is to ensure the confidentiality of information, prevent document forgery, and unauthorized use.
