FSC™ applies to all wood and non-wood products from forests, such as timber, fibers, pulp, paper, wooden or paper packaging, cardboard, textiles, cork, and more.
The Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization that promotes responsible management of the world’s forests. Founded in 1993 in response to widespread global deforestation, FSC has a governance structure based on transparency and equity of stakeholder interests. Its unique format allows stakeholders from across the globe to define, through consensus, essential social and environmental criteria for forest management.
All companies that display the FSC logo on their products send a message to their customers that purchasing such products ensures quality while simultaneously promoting responsible forest management. In other words, FSC represents the highest level of quality assurance in forestry, the wood industry, and the paper industry, incorporating various quality, social, and ecological requirements.
The FSC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification guarantees the traceability of FSC-certified material throughout the entire production process—from the forest to the end consumer. For products with FSC labels and compliance marks, all entities involved in the supply chain must hold a valid FSC CoC certificate.
FSC CoC is applicable and beneficial in the following systems and sectors:
- Wood processing industries
- Wood industries and trades
- Paper industries and trades
- Publishing houses and printing companies
- Sawmills
With an FSC CoC label, each company demonstrates that, together with its customers, it cares about forest resources and ecological balance worldwide. This contributes to improving its public image and creates greater opportunities for new business successes and easier market placement of its products.
